Founder
Meet the visionary behind Black Girl Streams.
Dr Silhouette Bushay, Founder and Executive Director
Dr Bushay is an academic and researcher working across Black girlhood/womanhood, education, pedagogy, community, health and care. Her interdisciplinary doctoral research underpins the intellectual foundation and creation of Black Girl Streams, and her wider work includes Senior Lectureship, Course Leadership, and research and academic writing at the University of East London. Her book chapter ‘Public Pedagogies of Resistance: Black British Women, Talk Di Ting’ in the Black Music in Britain in the Twenty-First Century (2023) publication foregrounds scholarship from a British context that engages Black womanhood, Hip Hop and Grime with pedagogical insights.

Founder of Black Girl Streams and Executive Director of the CIC. Responsible for the intellectual leadership, strategic direction, and development of Black Girl Streams as a research-led, field-building infrastructure rooted in her research.

Black Girl Streams is committed to transparent, proportionate, and ethical governance. Board appointments are being made carefully to ensure appropriate checks and balances while maintaining the organisation's research integrity and long-term sustainability.
